  1. The action plan for 2006-07 has been formulated after analyzing the success and shortcomings of the previous session of 2005-06. The increasing of percentage of attendance from 60 % to 70 % has yielded satisfactory results. Hence, it was decided to further raise it to 75 %, which was made compulsory for the session 2006-07, failing the maintenance that the students will be penalized.

 

  1. The practice of students being tested after each lesson or chapter, to assess their comprehension of the subject matter is to be continued. Doubts or confusion raised by the students are to be cleared in the class itself.

 

  1. Projects work for internal assessment under the supervision of teachers, has shown to generate enthusiasm and interest among the students. Hence this practice has been continued in this session.

 

  1. In keeping with the previous sessions, regular group discussions and seminars are conducted to instill confidence and develop the personality of the students. This has been brought about an attitudinal change in the students, especially in the area of public speaking. This has been considered as an important component in the overall personality development of the students.

1.      Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the Institution

 

The goals and objectives of the institution have been divided into two categories- short term (3 years) and long term (10 years). The schedule has been submitted in the self-study report. A copy is enclosed here as Annexure I for your ready reference.

 

The report given below illustrates the achievements under each category.

 

 

a.       Academic Development

 

The Dispur College Computer Society has continued its programme towards achievement of total computer literacy among the teachers and office staff. The members of the Computer Society are Dr Reeta Sharma (Vice Principal), Dr Nandini Barooah, Sri Khagen Boro, Sri Jyotish Goswami and Sri Ajoy Mitra.

 

The efforts of the Computer Society to impart basic computer education to the students for a fee of Rs 500/-, is still being continued. Efforts have also been made to train the office staff with the aim of fully computerizing the college office, which would lead to enhance work efficiency.

 

The Computer Society has also successfully provided computer-training facilities to a host of trainees from the entire northeast. This includes three batches of employees from the New India Assurance Company, other corporate houses, housewives and students from other institutions. Dispur College Website www.dispurcollege.com was launched in the month of April 2007.

 

Major developments in the Computer Centre are: unlimited broadband internet connectivity, computer literacy, supply of study materials, increasing number of computers and successful completion of computer course by 52 numbers of students in the session September ’06 to August ’07. The course includes:

The college regularly organizes field studies, visits, report preparation and presentation, case studies, group discussions, seminars and debates, towards making education more learner-centered student friendly.

 

All the departments in order to extend help to the academically disadvantaged students and thereby minimize both the dropout rate and the rate of failure have conducted remedial classes.

 

It has been decided to introduce Major course in History from the next academic session.

 

 

b.      Co-curricular Advancement

 

Regarding co-curricular activities, the programmes of the previous years ahs been continued viz - promotion of an ambience of creativity and innovativeness and to develop the personality of the students, competitions in various fields are held for the students in the Annual College Week.

 

There has been a remarkable body of work by the NSS under the supervision of Dr. Joyjyoti Goswami as Programme Officer of the NSS unit.

 

There has been full capacity enrollment in NCC. Students under NCC have always participated in the Republic Day Parade held in New Delhi every year.

 

c.       Social Development

 

NSS volunteers of Dispur College participated in Sadbhabana Diwas on 20th August 2006, organized by Vivekananda Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Assam.

 

Dispur College NSS unit has organized a blood donation camp on 10th November 2006, in collaboration with Model Blood Bank, GMCH, Guwahati. A total of 30 student volunteers and 4 teachers donated one unit of blood each, on that day.

 

10 NSS volunteers (5 boys and 5 girls) participated in the National Integration Camp organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, from 10th to 16th December 2006.

 

NSS volunteers of Dispur College participated in National Integration Camp from 21st to 29th of April 2007.

 

39 NSS volunteers participated in World Aids Day programme on 1-12-06 at Guwahati, organized by NSS Regional Centre (NER).

 

 

 

d.      Environmental Development

 

NSS Programme Officer Dr Joyjyoti Goswami participated in a two-day training programme on Disaster Management for NSS and NCC Officers on 2nd and 3rd August 2006. NSS Regional Centre (NER) organized this programme in collaboration with the District Administration of Kamrup Metro.

 

World Environment Day was observed as in the previous years by plantation of saplings by the faculty members and students in and around the college campus. An open air lecture on topics ranging from preservation of the environment, evils of indiscriminate use of plastics, to segregated waste disposal was conducted by the teachers in an extempore fashion.

 

e.       Infrastructure and Physical Development

 

The construction of a spacious and airy reading room attached to the library has been completed. The Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, Dr Amar Jyoti Choudhury on 25th April 2007, inaugurated it. The President and some members of the Governing body were also present on the occasion.

 

The construction of additional classrooms is nearing completion.

 

Broadband internet connectivity is fully operational in the library and computer center.

 

f.        Organisation and Management

 

Efforts for governance on the principles of transparency and participation have continued. Efforts for professional development of the non-teaching staff have continued by providing computer education for them.

 

The audit report of 2006-07 states that there are no irregularity in accounts and accounts are in order.

 

Staff Welfare Schemes including salary advance during its non-receipt from the State Government, and availing loans by employees are still being continued.

 

The Grievance Redressal Cell as in previous years has addressed all grievances.

 

g.       Economic Development

 

The use of cheques has brought about efficiency in the use of funds. The cash-in-hand system has been completely abolished.

 

To generate additional funds, the college has adopted a system of letting out its premises on Sundays and holidays for examinations by various govt., semi-govt., and private organizations such as Railways, P & T, Insurance Companies, etc. besides entrance tests for Medical and Engineering Colleges.

 

2.      New academic programmes initiated

 

a.       The career oriented advance diploma course in “Entrepreneurship Development” was inaugurated on 27.10.05. This course is continued for the session 2006 and 2007 also. The programme is affiliated to Gauhati University. The course coordinator is Dr Reeta Sharma, HOD, Economics.

 

b.       A decision has been taken to introduce two new courses: BBA and BCA under Gauhati University under the newly appointed Principal, Dr Amar Saikia.

 

c.       The Advance diploma course on “Nutrition and Child Care” initiated in the previous session is being continued. Course coordinator Dr Babee Barua, HOD, Education, supervises this course.

 

3.      Innovations in Curricular Design and Transactions

 

The College follows the curriculum designed and formulated by the Gauhati University as other affiliated college under Gauhati University.

 

4.      Interdisciplinary programmes started

 

The college has not started any interdisciplinary programmes as yet.

The examinations of the college are conducted as per the rules and guidelines framed by the Gauhati University.

b.      Dr Sunita Agarwala for her minor research project on “socio-cultural life of Hajong tribe of Assam”. UGC(NERO) sanctioned Rs 55000/-.

 

c.       Dr Joyjyoti Goswami for her MRP “Rivers and associate objects in Shankardeva’s works”. UGC(NERO) sanctioned Rs 45000/-.

Dr. Rani Mudiar Deka, Dept. of Economics, Dispur College was invited by Govt. of Assam to the Third Assam State Finance Commission constituted by the Governor of Assam acting under provision of Articles of 243(1) and 243(y) of the Indian Constitution.

 

She has been invited by G. D. Tripathy (IAS), Joint Secretary, Finance, Govt. of Assam to a meeting held on 30.8.06 along with leading economists, intellectuals, finance experts and educationists of the state. They sought suggestions to benefit from her rich experience in matter of Public administration in general and financial problems of local bodies in particular.

Resource has been generated from students’ tuition fees and letting out of college premises for holding conferences / workshops by outside agencies and public examinations.

17.  Community Services

 

The college as routine feature undertakes cleanliness drive in the college campus as well as in and around the neighbourhood.

 

The college students union body collects funds and clothes every year for the victims of the flood affected area which is a regular phenomenon in this region.

 

Clothes and sweets were distributed in orphanages on the occasion of Children’s Day.

 

The students of yoga cell extended their help as volunteers at “Ashadeep”, a mental health care unit on the special Olympic held at Guwahati.

The Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Dr Amar Jyoti Choudhury inaugurated the newly constructed spacious and airy reading room of the library on 25th April 2007.

 

The total computerization processes in the library works are still underway. 24 hours internet facility is available in the library.

22.  Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on student feedback

 

Student feedback is taken at the end of the session every year. Three types of forms are filled by the students, one on their reaction to the course and syllabus, two, regarding performance and approachability of their faculty members and 3rd , regarding their future course of action and plan after leaving the institute.

 

Steps are taken after each feedback session. The faculty members sit with the Principal and formulate future course of action.

24.  Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination results, issue of certificate

 

Introduced in admission process. In case of examinations, since we conduct examinations under Gauhati University and since Gauhati University introduced computerization in examination so is our college. We have our own website which helps our admission process.

 

25.  Increase in the infrastructure facilities

 

Extension of classrooms is going on – the fund for the extension is generated by the college itself.

 

New library reading room was constructed by the financial support from UGC.

 

26.  Technology Upgradation

 

The entire process of administration of the college is now computerized.

 

27.  Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students

 

Training has already been completed. The entire college is networked and the internet facility is free for all the faculty members and students at computer center.

 

28.  Financial Aid to students

 

Rs 6600/- was released from students’ welfare fund for poor and needy students.

 

29.  Activities and support from Alumni Association

 

A wall magazine “PRERONA” sponsored by Alumni Association is being continued. The teachers and the students articles, write-ups, poems are published annually.

 

30.  Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association

 

Different teachers conduct informal counseling sessions on one-to-one basis with certain parents when necessity arose.

 

31.  Health Services

 

The college does not health care facility, like dispensary, hospital of its own.

 

Simply it organizes some health camps, blood donation camps and awareness camps.

 

32.  Performance in sports activities

 

It is a matter of immense pride for the institution that a student of TDC 3rd year Ms Bulbul Basumatary represented the state in the 33rd National Games, held in Assam in February 2007, and was successful in begging the gold medal in Karate.

 

The college Volleyball team won the champions trophy in SPIRIT 2006 conducted by IIT, Guwahati.

 

 

 

 

33.  Incentives to Outstanding Sports Personalities

 

Sporting talents have always been encouraged by Dispur College. The felicitation of Ms Bulbul Basumatary is a case in this point. The students are provided with financial support as travel and incidental expenses, so that they are able to participate in different sporting events.

 

34.  Student’s achievements and awards

 

Students of the Dept. of commerce have shown brilliant results in the B.Com final examinations held in 2007, especially in accountancy and management and finance. Sameer Rawat secured 1st class tenth in Accountancy and Rupak Debnath secured first class 45th position in Accountancy. More than 60 students obtained second class in major subjects and the percentage of successful students from our college was a remarkable 93 % in commerce stream.

 

In the field of sports, Ms Bulbul Basumotary has brought laurels to Dispur College by winning gold in Karate in the 33rd National Games held in February 2007. The Bihu husari team of Dispur College bagged the second prize in the husari competetion in Synchisis, 2007 a cultural event organized by the Guwahati Medical College from 4th to 7th January 2007.

 

The NCC unit of Dispur College bagged the 2nd prize in the pre-RD camp held at Narengi, Guwahati. The team also participated in the RD Parade held at New Delhi.

Similar to the previous session.

 

36.  Placement services provided to the students

 

The college does not have full fledged placement service.

 

37.  Development programme for non-teaching staff

 

A training programme was launched on book keeping, accounting and other official procedures.

 

38.  Healthy practices of the institution

 

Healthy practices initiated earlier are being continued towards widening the mental horizons of students by organizing field works, educational tours, quiz, group discussions and class seminars, activities under NCC and NSS.

 

Educational excursions to places outside the state are also being held on a regular basis.

 

The annual college week provides a platform for the students to develop their individual talents and help in fostering a team spirit among them.

 

The principal along with the heads of departments meet at regular intervals to check the academic functioning of the college.

 

Faculty members of all the departments meet from time to time to check the academic progress of their respective departments.

 

Yoga teaching is another important healthy practice.

 

39.  Linkages Developed with National / International academic / research bodies

 

IIBM (Indian Institute of bank Management) and IIE (Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship) by the Department of Economics. Students from the departments of economics and commerce were sent to IIBM to attend lectures on banking related to curriculum delivered by specialized resource persons of the institution.
